In Botanical (“Eco”) Printing, leaves are tightly bundled in fabric or stacked in layers of paper, and steamed over hot water or simmered in a dye bath, to extract and transfer pigments from the leaves to produce a unique print.
In this introductory session, you will learn about the key principles involved, the range of fabrics which can be used effectively, and differences in how leaves respond and print. You make a scarf and stack of paper prints and will have the opportunity to forage for local leaves.
Further courses may be planned if students are interested.
